Boiler Feedwater Checklist

1. What is the inlet water quality, specifically iron dissolved and Fe+2 and particulate iron Fe+3?

2. Is the return condensate routinely tested for total hardness?

3. What is the temperature of the condensate return?

4. Has return condensate ever been diverted to drain or sewer because of low quality?

5. Is the pretreatment zeolite softener making adequate, low hardness boiler feedwater?

6. What are the age, manufacturer, and pressure of your boiler system?

7. Is the boiler system a firetube or water tube boiler?

8. Have the boiler tubes been augered, punched or acid cleaned recently?

9. Can you identify steam traps or heat exchangers allowing city and/or cooling tower water into heat exchangers, etc.?

10. Do you have a simple schematic of your steam plant?

11. What is your condensate return rate in gpm or approximate % condensate return?

12. Are you interested in calculating % condensate return via Chloride Ion or Silica Levels?

13. What parameter are you using to initiate boiler blowdown and how are you controlling it?

14. What are your boiler cycles of concentration?

15. What chemicals do you feed into your steam or steam condensate and why?
